An important role has now for a RN Theatre Recovery has now become available in Cape Town. The Clinical Nurse Specialist focuses on the delivery of quality competent nursing care. This nurse is an important part of clinical resource and leader in a particular clinical specialty, performing functions at an advanced level competently and consistently. Sound and contemporary knowledge of the area of specialty, together with an advanced understanding of professional nursing, health care delivery and programme planning, allows the CNS to fulfill the following primary roles:
Advanced clinical care
Consultation as a source of expert knowledge
Clinical teaching of staff and learners
Research
Leadership
Responsibilities:
Keep abreast of current research in the discipline
Practice patient care according to the Scope of Practice and assume total responsibility for these activities
Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care
Promote patient of health and wellbeing
Practice the principles of infection prevention and all Standard precautions
Promote and maintain good public relations with patients, relatives and visitors
Execute all procedures according to hospital standards
Ensure that all patients have an appropriate nursing care plan
Communicate with Health Care Practitioners regarding any change in health status
Administer and store medication in accordance with the policy.
Perform other duties as reasonably requested by the Unit Manager or senior member of staff.
Participate in units quality improvement programme
Effective risk prevention and management
Maintain a therapeutic, clean and safe environment that is free from medico-legal hazards
Adhere to the Resuscitation and Reanimation policy
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
Work effectively and cooperatively with others to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial.
Create and maintain a positive environment where the differences of others are recognized, understood, and valued, so that all can reach their full potential and maximize their contributions.
Develop collaborative relationships to help accomplish work goal.
Job Requirements:
Must have a Registered Nurse qualification and registered with the South African Nursing Council.
Relevant qualification within a specialist area - Theatre/Operating Room
2-3 Years in a Theatre Anesthetics and Recovery experience is essential
