Clinical or Counselling Psychologist

Our client is searching for a seasoned Clinical Psychologist based in Plettenberg Bay to join their team at their highly specialised addiction center dealing with substance abuse, eating disorders and mental health issues for international patients.


The ideal person must be willing to fit into the learning culture and be willing to share new ideas or techniques. The centre is all about patient centred care and the incumbent must have a passion for helping people and thinking out of the box.


The Psychologist will be responsible for group and individual therapy sessions in an in-patient setting and general patient care. Must be able to work well within the current team of nurses and specialists as well as be able to work independently.


Must be able to hit the ground running and go.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As a therapist, you will facilitate individual and group therapy sessions for patients dealing with addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions.

  • You will also be responsible for conducting assessments and diagnoses for mental health and substance use disorders.

  • Working in tandem with other healthcare professionals, you will develop and execute treatment plans for your patients.

  • You will also attend case conferences and staff meetings to discuss patient progress and identify effective treatment strategies.

  • In addition, you will ensure that patient records and documentation adhere to ethical and legal standards.

  • It is important that you remain up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in addiction treatment and mental health care.

Job Requirements:

  • hold a relevant degree in Psychology, such as Bpsych, Hons, or a Master's degree. A valid HPCSA psychologist license is also required.

  • Prior experience in both private and hospital settings is necessary, as is experience with in-patient care.

  • Additionally, candidates must possess experience working with patients who have addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, with expertise in treating substance abuse and eating disorders being essential.

  • Excellent diagnostic and assessment skills are required, along with exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.

  • The ability to work well in a team with other healthcare professionals is necessary, and knowledge of evidence-based addiction treatment and mental health interventions is critical. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to ethical and professional standards.

  • Furthermore, EMDR qualification, training, and experience are mandatory requirements for this position.

Working hours: Mon - Fri (08h00 - 17h00)


One weekend a month rotation
